Sack Controller of Immigration over Aisha Huang’s return – Adam Bonaa

Security Analyst Dr Adam Bonaa has called for the resignation of sacking of the Controller of Ghana Immigration Service on the back of the re-arrest of Chinese galamsey queen Aisha Huang who was first arrested and deported from Ghana in 2018 for allegedly engaging in illegal mining and sales of gold.

In an interview with Alfred Ocansey on 3FM Sunrise Morning Show on Tuesday 6 September, 2022, Adam Bona asserted that Aisha Huang used a Togolese Visa and an approved border into the country.

It means that anybody at all can enter the country to cause harm.

“I think if it is a human failure then somebody must be held responsible and for me the Controller of the Ghana Immigration Service must be questioned. I was thinking that by this morning the Controller of Immigration might have tendered his resignation or gotten fired, and the chain of command from Aflao Border to wherever she found herself when she was arrested must probably be interdicted” Dr. Bonaa said.

He further stated that “All the digitization couldn’t trace Aisha Huang irrespective of the millions of cedis the government has invested in the digitization agenda.”

He also expressed surprise and disappointment that Aisha Huang was only arrested for dealing in gold illegally but not for entering Ghana illegally. The immigration service have probably absorbed themselves from blame under the current charge against Aisha Huang, but however it is the GIS that sees to who enters or exits the country.

“Not having illegal entry on her charge sheet means something doesn’t add up” he concluded

An Accra Circuit Court remanded into custody four Chinese nationals for their alleged involvement in illegal small-scale mining activities. Hearing the case Monday September 5, three suspects, Jong Li Huang, Huang Jei and Huiad Hua pleaded not guilty in court to a charge of engaging in sales and purchases of minerals without license.

Aisha Huang could not have her plea heard due to unavailability of a Chinese interpreter in court on Friday and hence remains in police custody.

Presiding judge, Samuel Bright Acquah remanded the suspects into custody to reappear before the court on September 14.
