Ghanaians ‘in shock’ as GRA officials inspect receipts at retail shops

Ghanaians are beginning to appreciate the extent of the economic crisis as they express mixed reactions to the deployment of Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) officials at some major retail shops in the capital, Accra.

Over the weekend, tax officials were seen in these shops inspecting receipts of shoppers.

Shops like Melcom, Shoprite, Palace Mall and China Mall have been cited.

While some are hailing the seriousness of the government to get more of the country’s citizens to pay taxes, many more think it is a sign of the state of depletion of the current economy.

lready, Ghana is knocking on the doors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for an Enhanced Domestic Programme (EDP), which is expected to be agreed to in the last quarter of this year, or latest first quarter of 2023.
