Strict application of the law should help deal with procurement irregularities – Ameyaw-Akumfi

Board Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi has said one of the sources of confusionsGuidelines-for-Sole-Source in public procurement is single-sourcing.

However, he said there are regulations established by the Act of Parliament governing public procurements which, when effectively implemented, should be able to deal with the challenges with single-sourcing.

He was speaking on the News 360 on TV3 regarding the 2021 Auditor General’s report.

Asked how procurement irregularities could be reduced, the Former Minister of Education who served under the John Kufuor administration said “By working with the law.”

He added “I am not a procurement specialist, I haven’t had any course in procurement but there is an Act of Parliament that has established the PPA. In there, there are regulations and and dos and dont’s.

Guidelines-for-Sole-Source

“One source of confusion is the use of single source. To me, if you work with the law there shouldn’t be any problem. There are guidelines that say, for the application of single source to go through, these are the conditions that have to be met.”
