The Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development Hon Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah on Monday (27th June, 2022) continued his regional tours in the Greater Accra accessing the state of certain key government lands which have been encroached by individuals and private developers.
His tour of the national capital started from Medie to Aburi and then Prampram.
At Medie, a government acquired 368-acres of land had seen massive encroachment with only 2 acres remaining.
Private developers have acquired large tracts and fenced them for future use.
One of such developers had fenced 50 plots of land as part of the encroached portion.
The story was not different at Prampram where the Chiefs prayed government hasten efforts at reclaiming the encroached lands.
The Queenmother of Prampram volunteered to go round with the Deputy Minister and his entourage to show him portions of the encroached areas where she pleaded strongly to the Techiman South legislator that government acts swiftly to stop the worrying trend.
Furtherance to this, all Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies whose areas are victims of such encroachment have been directed to cease developers as the Ministry will move in soon to demolish such illegal structures.
The Deputy Minister had already toured the Western and Central Regions last week where he uncovered serious land encroachment by private developers, a situation which has seriously affected the operations of these government institutions especially in Axim, Tarkwa and Effia-Kwesimintim.
He subsequently served notice that the Ministry would employ all means possible to reclaim all stolen lands and released to the appropriate institutions to enhance their operations.
The Deputy Minister had been in the two regions to inspect works of decentralized agencies like Parks and Gardens and Community Development under the Ministry.
