The Court warns the prosecution about delays in the case of the bullion van thefts

The Circuit Court in Accra, which is trying six alleged robbers, five of whom are police officers, has stated that if the prosecution delays the case, it will be dismissed.

On the next adjourned date, the court stated that if the prosecution fails to comply with its directives, the case of bullion vans and street robberies will be dismissed.

The court stated that the delay was concerning and that the accused’s confinement was inhumane, and adjourned the case to June 28, 2022, for a Case Management Conference or the prospective opening of the case.

However, due to the nature of the crime and the circumstances surrounding its commission, the court said it could not grant the six accused their requested bail.

If the prosecution fails to comply with the court’s order to file and serve witness statements on the accused, the case will be dismissed.

Five police recruits have been charged with conspiracy and attempted robbery: Yaro Afisu Ibrahim, Albert Ofosu, also known as (aka) Cypher, Richard Boadu, aka, Osor, Rabiu Jambedu, and Nelson Tetteh.

Constables Ibrahim and Ofosu, alias Cypher, have pleaded not guilty to the attempted robbery allegation. On Monday, the five, together with their accomplice, Baba Zakari, alias Rasta, a mechanic, and a civilian, appeared in court.

G/Constables The charges of abetment have also been dismissed against Richard Boadu, nicknamed Osor, G/Constable Rabiu Jambedu, G/Constable Nelson Tetteh, and Badu Zakari.

The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sylvester Asare, has been instructed to file disclosures and witness testimonies, as well as serve the six defendants
