There’s No record that shows Sir John owned Achimota Forest land – Lands Commission

A statement issued by the ministry on Sunday (22 May) said it has put in a request for all documents relating to the Achimota Forest land in question

The government through the Lands Commission has revealed that there are no records available that show that the former chief executive officer of the Forestry Commission Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John owned portions of the Achimota forest land.

In a media engagement, the executive secretary of the Lands Commission, James Dadson and the deputy Lands Minister, Benito Owusu-Bio indicated that such reports are erroneous.

“There is nothing in our records concerning that. What you read is what I have read. We don’t have anything recorded here for Sir John as far as our records are concerned,” he said.

The Commission’s statement comes after officials of the lands and natural resources ministry paid a working visit to the Greater Accra Regional office of the lands commission to assess the damage caused by Saturday’s floods.

The comment follows the publication of a will, purported to be by Sir John. The ten-page document has been circulating on social media which sees him allegedly willing parts of the Achimota forest to relatives.

However, a statement issued by the ministry on Sunday (22 May 2022) said it has requested to see all documents relating to the land in question, at the start of an inquiry into the truth of the claims.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources said it will ensure the national interest is protected at all times in matters relating to the Achimota Forest.
