Ghanaians cannot hold Akufo-Addo responsible for all of their problems – Gabby

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a political strategist and stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that Ghanaians cannot blame President Akufo-Addo and his government for the difficulties they are facing.

Ghana’s economic difficulties have been attributed by the Akufo-Addo government to the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on global economies, as well as, more recently, to global economic turbulence caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Despite the economic challenges, the political stalwart stated that Ghanaians are optimistic about how the government and state machinery will implement structures and mechanisms to help alleviate their hardships.

“Crossing the 8”

Although every government in Ghana’s current constitutional arrangements collapses after eight years at most, Otchere-Darko believes the New Patriotic Party is capable of “breaking the eight” by 2024.

“I’ll say that every government breaks down after eight years historically,” Otchere-Darko told Beatrice Adu on The Big Bulletin on Monday (25 April 2022). The NPP has what it takes to cross the eight because Ghanaians understand that they cannot blame the president and his government for everything that is happening right now, regardless of the difficulties that people are facing.

“As a result, they’re interested in seeing how well the government handles their problems and prepares the country for the future.”

“They’ll consider that as well as the alternative, and once they’ve determined that the alternative hasn’t changed, they’ll consider how the government has handled the crisis.”

“And they pay attention to who the NPP’s candidate is and what he says.” That will be an addition, and it will also bring something new, because “we expect you to come with your fresh ideas, regardless of the fact that you’ve been part of the government and you’ve been given the mandate as the next president,” the founder of the Danquah Institute, a public policy think tank, told Asaase Radio.
