The EIU made a mistake by limiting its report to only the NPP and NDC – Kabila

James Kwabena Bomfeh (Kabila), a member of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), has expressed concern about the Economist and Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) failure to include the other political parties in its recent report.

He believes that any researcher who limits his work to the two major parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is making a mistake.

The EIU predicts that the main opposition NDC will win the next general elections if former President John Dramani Mahama is not chosen as their presidential candidate.

“The next parliamentary and presidential elections are scheduled for 2024.” The incumbent president, Mr Akufo-Addo, cannot run for a third term because of constitutionally mandated term limits.

“The former president, John Mahama, is reportedly considering running again, but we expect the opposition NDC to try to revitalize its prospects with a new candidate.”

“Our baseline forecast is that ongoing public dissatisfaction with the slow pace of governance improvements—such as infrastructure development, job creation, and corruption reduction—will trigger anti-incumbency factors and push the electorate to seek a change.” “As a result, the NDC has a reasonable chance of winning the 2024 elections,” the EIU predicted in their forecast.

On the New Day show on TV3 on Wednesday, April 20, Kabila said, “What this report seeks to portray is to try to picture 2024 as if it will be limited to two political parties.” I read the report, and they do not consider the possibility of any party.

“In terms of winning elections, it has largely been the NPP and NDC since 1993, but any election watcher will be making a mistake if they do not factor in the independent candidates and other political parties and their effect.”
