According to Mr Richard Kumadoe, a Fraud and Security Analyst, the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has been ineffective in resolving chieftaincy-related conflicts in the country.
He explained that the Ministry was established to address issues related to chieftaincy, among other things, but has failed to fulfill its mandate.
Mr Kumadoe was responding to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-concerns Addo’s that Ghana spends too much money resolving chieftaincy conflicts in the country.
Mr. Akufo-Addo expressed concern that half of the National Security budget is being spent on resolving chieftaincy disputes in various parts of the country.
He believed that documenting traditional council state books would aid in the resolution of Chieftaincy disputes.
On Saturday, April 16, he made these remarks at the launch of the Kwahu State book in Mpreaso, Eastern Region.
The book is a 3000 page document that contains information about the Kwahu state’s history, culture, and customs.
“When I took office, I realized that we were wasting money on resolving chieftaincy conflicts.” “We spend a lot of money attempting to resolve chieftaincy disputes throughout the country,” President Akufo-Addo said.
On the midday news on TV3 on Sunday, April 17, Mr Kumadoe stated, “I agree with the President, we have spent so much time tackling old traditions in the system, and we should find a way as a nation to bring them in a coherent manner that will make them more productive.”
“Remember, in the wisdom of our nation’s founders, they had a whole Ministry for Chieftaincy; I believe that Ministry has been a bit ineffective, which is why we are having so many problems in that area.”
