Bawumia was deceitful; in his economic presentation, he used fabricated numbers — Sammy Gyamfi

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) National Communications Officer, has accused Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of using manipulated data in his economic studies.

After reading the Vice President’s complete statement, he expressed his sadness for Ghana, claiming that Dr Bawumia was disingenuous and refused to accept responsibility for the country’s economic woes.

“I couldn’t listen to the Vice President’s live presentation, but I have had time to read the 129-page speech he delivered,” Sammy Gyamfi remarked on TV3’s Key Points with host Dzifa Bampoh. I felt sad for this country after doing so because we have a vice president that is dishonest and deceptive.

“The Vice President who refuses to take responsibility for his own mismanagement of the economy and the government’s failures.” That 129-page speech is riddled with outright lies and a litany of flimsy excuses. Cooked figures and fake statistical data are being used to give the appearance that this government is doing better when the truth is that the country’s economy has deteriorated over the last five years.”

In his speech, Dr. Bawumia noted that the ongoing geopolitical tension between Russia and Ukraine has a direct impact on Ghana.

Russia supplies 30% of Ghana’s imported cereals, 50% of flour, and 39% of fertilizer, according to him.

As a result, the local economy was impacted, he explained.

“The war between Russia and Ukraine has added to the rise in commodities prices.” Together, Russia and Ukraine export 30% of all wheat in the world. The bigger the interruptions to the global food supply, the longer the conflict lasts. Global growth will most likely be slowed as a result of the country’s actions.

“Wheat prices have risen by 62% since the war began, according to the African Development Bank.” Since the beginning of the war, the price of fertilizer has risen by 300 percent, while the price of corn has risen by 36%. Ukraine buys 60% of Ghana’s total iron ore and steel.
