Bawumia tried to present an economic picture that didn’t exist – Kobby Mensah

Dr. Kobby Mensah, a Political Marketing expert and lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), says the Vice President’s presentation on the state of the Ghanaian economy on Thursday April 7 was an attempt to portray a picture of what does not exist.

He claimed that because the Finance Minister and President had already spoken about the status of the economy on several occasions, Dr Bawumia did not need to speak on the same themes if he was going to avoid the E-Levy, which was the people’s expectation.

Dr. Kobby Mensah told Alfred Ocansey of 3FM Sunrise Morning Show that Ghanaians expected the Vice President’s State of the Economy talk to focus on his position on the E-Levy, not the unneeded comparison.

“His address was expected to be on E-Levy, but he purposefully avoided it.” I was astonished he compared 2007 to 2016; 2016 may be excellent. The comparison, in my opinion, is uninteresting.

“People’s interests are at stake.” It’s about how things are right now. People were eager to learn about the solutions to our issues.” According to 3FM,

“The average rate of GDP growth for 2017-2021 (including COVID-19 period) was 5.3 percent, compared to 3.0 percent between 2013 and 2016,” Dr Bawumia stated. As a result, even with COVID-19, the economy is growing at a faster rate than it was from 2013 to 2016.”
