Special Prosecutor must investigate Kennedy Agyapong and Chief of Staff on 120k claims – Hon Apraku Lartey

The former District Chief Executive for the Tano North district under the erstwhile Mahama administration and the current Regional Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress in the Ahafo Region has called for a swift investigation into the recent allegations made by the Member of Parliament for the Assin Central.

The vocal Member of Parliament for the Assin Central, who is the chairman for the Defense and Interior Committee in Parliament on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, alleged of the Chief of Staff, Hon Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, giving him a whooping amount of 120,000.00, to be deposited into the Fidelity Account of the Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya who doubles as the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

The Assin Central Member of Parliament disclosed this in his one on one interview on a local base radio station in Accra, Asaase Radio 99.5 mhz.

Mr Kennedy Agyapong, who was commenting on the long absenteeism of the Dome Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Hon Sarah Adwoa Safo, described her actions as a ”betrayal” of the party in an attempt to hold the party to ransom for her personal interest.

”I want to tell Dr Amoako Baah that Adwoa Safo is in Parliament but we are in opposition so if we go for by election and we lose, it doesn’t make a difference” he said.

Mr Kennedy Agyapong, who was visibly furious revealed of how the Chief of Staff gave him money at his office to be deposited into Adwoa Safo’s account to lure her to come back to Parliament.

When asked by the host, Mr Kwaku Nhyira-Addo whether he suppprted the calls for her removal from Parliament, Mr Kennedy Agyapong responded yes.

”When you look at the foundation that i have laid, it clearly tells you that i support for her removal from Parliament if she doesn’t come”

He added that ”Adwoa Safo, Chief of Staff called me: i went there and she said now this is what she (Adwoa Safo) is saying. She (Chief of Staff) gave me 120,000 to be deposited into Adwoa Safo’s Fidelity Bank Account. I put the money there. Ask the PA if what i am saying is not the truth” he stated.

Commenting on this allegation by the Assin Central Member of Parliament on a political discussion on a Sunyani base Service Radio 104.9 mhz, the NDC Regional Communications Officer for the Ahafo Region called on the Special Prosecutor, Lawyer Kissi Agyabeng, to take interest in the allegation and immediately invite Mr Kennedy Agyapong and Hon Akosua Frema Osei-Opare to conduct investigation into the claims.

”I am calling on the Special Prosecutor to show interest in the claims made by Mr Kennedy Agyapong about the Chief of Staff giving him an amount of 120,000 to be deposited into the account of Adwoa Safo at the Fidelity Bank” he said.

The Regional Communication Officer, Hon Apraku Lartey, sighted the instances where the Ghana Police Service arrested the Municipal Chief Executive Officer nominee for Juaben in the Ashanti Region, Mr Alex Sarfo Kantanka, following a viral video of him demanding a refund of the alleged bribe he paid to Assembly Members for his confirmation in November, 2021.

”The Juaben MCE nominee was arrested by the Police on November 2, 2021 on account of allegedly paying bribe to Assembly Members for his confirmation and so the Special Prosecutor must invite Kennedy Agyapong and the Chief of Staff now on the same account” Hon Apraku Lartey added.
