The Banda District, which is within the Bono Region of Ghana, was carved out from the Tain District in 2012, and inaugurated on 28th June, 2012 under Legislative Instrument (LI) 2092 with Banda Ahenkro as its capital.
For almost a decade after its creation, there has been a continous effort by the Member of Parliament for Banda Constituency and the First Deputy Minority Chief Whip of Parliament, Hon Ahmed Ibrahim to develop the district through the human resources and the physical infrastructural facilities to meet the growing demand as well as to uplift the district to match its sister districts across all sectors of development.
The Member of Parliament for Banda, Hon Ahmed Ibrahim, after his maiden Parliamentary victory on December 7, 2012, in the year 2013, set up a scholarship scheme under his office to identify brilliant students, who successfully completed their Basic Education Certificate Examimation and the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examimation across the district, to fully pay for their school fees and other expenses to enrol them into the various second cycle and the tertiary institutions based on one’s field of interest and strength.
After the scholarship was established, over 500 tertiary students have benefited from the scheme: graduating in the various field of professions including teachers, engineers, nurses, physician assistants and the latest being a medical doctor.
One of these beneficiaries is Dr Bright Tobu, a native of Banda Ahenkro, who recently graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of Health and Allied Sciences at Ho, as a medical practitioner.
Dr Bright Tobu, who has made history as the first indigen from Banda to be trained as a medical practitioner, presented his graduation certificate to the Member of Parliament for Bamda and the First Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Hon Ahmed Ibrahim at his Office on Monday, February 21, 2022 at the Parliament House in Accra.
Dr Bright Tobu, who was full of joy, thanked the Member of Parliament, Hon Ahmed Ibrahim, for his financial support through out his admission fees to the years of studies. Dr Bright Tobu, further indicated of his willingness to serve his people at Banda whenever he is posted to work as a medical doctor at Banda.
Hon Ahmed Ibrahim in his congratulatory message, entreated Dr Bright Tobu, to work diligently and adhere to his professional code of conduct as he serves humanity. Hon Ahmed Ibrahim again revealed that, plans are underway to enrol the three physician assistants into the medical school. He further reiterated of his commitment to support more students from the Banda district to acquire various professional training and skills to develop the district.
