Joe Danquah ‘abandons’ court in his Banda Parliamentary Election petition

The longest Parliamentary Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Banda constituency of the Bono Region, Mr Joe Danquah, seems to ”abandon” his petition before the Sunyani High Court.

The four times Parliamentary Candidate of the NPP, after the declaration of the Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress as validly elected by the presiding officer of the Electoral Commission in the 2020 General elections as the Member of Parliament for the Banda Constituency, petitioned the Sunyani High Court to annul the declaration by the Electoral Commission.

The petitioner, Mr Joe Danquah, in 2021 went to the Sunyani High Court to contest the declaration of the Hon Ahmed Ibrahim as validly elected by the Electoral Commission.

In the last adjournment of the case in 2021, the petitioner, Mr Joe Danquah, prayed to the Court to bring in a new lawyer, lawyer Frank Davis, to takeover the ongoing case from his earlier lawyer.

The Judge, granted the request of the petitioner and subsequently adjourned the case to Friday, February 4, 2022 after the new lawyer for the petitioner, lawyer Frank Davis, had pleaded with the Court for enough time to abreast himself with the case by engaging the earlier lawyer for further information.

The petitioner, Mr Joe Danquah and his lawyer, Lawyer Frank Davis, who were to appear in Court on Friday, February 4, 2022 were no where to be found when the presiding judge called for the case to be heard.

It is not known as to why both the petitioner and his lawyer failed to appear before the Court on Friday, without seeking any leave with the Court.

The lawyer for the first respondent, lawyer Eric Amponsah, who represented his client, Hon Ahmed Ibrahim, prayed the court to award cost against the petitioner for resorting into a deliberate tactics to delay the hearing of the petition as both lawyers, prior to the last adjournment of the case, agreed for expedition of the hearing of the petition.
