GRA develops monitoring platforms for implementation of E-levy

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is prepared for the implementation of the yet-to-be approved E-levy policy proposal.

The GRA is developing monitoring platform for the full implementation of the E-levy if it is approved by Parliament.

“As you may be aware, the Electronic Transfer Levy Bill is under consideration by Parliament. While we await the passage of the Bill into Law, I wish to inform you to hold yourself in readiness for the implementation of the levy in three (3) phases as soon as the Bill is passed into law,” a letter written and signed by he Commissioner-General of GRA, Rev. Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Asamoah to the ARP Apex Bank said.

The government has been sensitizing the public on the E-levy through townhall meetings in parts of the country.

The much-anticipated consideration of the Electronic Transfer Levy Bill, popularly known as e-levy, was postponed to a later date.

The Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta had reduced the E-levy rate from the initial 1.75 per cent to 1.5 per cent after meeting with the Minority leadership as part of consultations on the proposal, Friday January 28.

The Minority were however still opposed to it. They wanted the proposal to be dropped entirely.

This meeting was after the first meeting between the two parties on Thursday January 27 ended in a deadlock with both side remained intransigent on their position regarding the proposal.

The meeting formed part of stakeholder engagements on the proposal.

The Majority Leader in Parliament Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu urged all Members of Parliament to make it a priority to partake in the process leading to the passage of the E-levy.

He told the House on Tuesday January 25 that further stakeholder consultation were ongoing on the proposal hence the inability of the Business Committee to programme it during the first week of the first setting of the second session.
