The General Secretary of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Kokoro Amankwa made this remark when he addressed members at the Bono Regional Delegates’ Conference in Sunyani on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

According to him, women participation in decision making process was key to national development considering their number and contributions they make to society.

He said it is difficult to achieve sustainable development without active participation of women at all levels.

Mr. Amankwa blamed the challenge on society.
“Women constitute more than half of the country’s population and without their active participation in decision making process, it will difficult to achieve sustainable development”.

This he explained that NALAG has partnered the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to implement a six-year project called the partnership for municipal innovation, women in local leadership aimed at increasing women participation in local governance.

The theme for the conference; transforming local economies for inclusive and sustainable recovery according to Mr. Amankwaa was not only timely, relevant and critical but apt to challenges confronting global and local economies.

The impact of the global pandemic which has not only affected governance and economies, he noted that Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies have had a share of the impact of the deadly virus.

This he added is a clarion call on Assemblies across the country to strategize and focus on harnessing more on human, financial and natural resources to create jobs, increase income and reduce poverty.

He also charged the various MMDAs to resolves conflicts that graced the confirmation of MMDCEs.
