The National Security Ministry has clashed with the Chief of Staff of Ghana Armed Forces over withdrawal of military personnel from the office of the speaker of Parliament.
This comes after four military officers, WOI Jafaru Banwuru, WOII Apugiba Awine David, S/Sgt Agbley Prosper and Sgt Bonney Prince were detached from the speaker’s office over claims of improper procedure.
But the National Security Ministry in a statement released on January 15, 2022 refuted the claims.
According to the Ministry, ‘there has neither been a withdrawal of the security detail for the speakers nor reduction in the security strength of Parliament’.
The statement further indicated that for the first time in 2017, the security arrangements for both Speaker and Members of Parliament have been significantly enhanced.
“The Ministry of National Security would like to place on record that contrary to aforesaid misinterpretation, all requisite resources including and personnel required for the full protection of the speaker have been provided”, the statement read.
The Ministry added that the GAF do not form part of Tue security detail for the speaker and Parliament as it is provided by the Ghana Police Service.
The Ministry is however calling on the general public to disregard what it describes as unfounded speculations.
