Tain MP urges teachers to collectively fight for their welfare

The role out of the Common Core Programme (CCP), will begin this 2022 academic year at the Junior High School (JHS) level and the Ghana Education Service, GES is organizing a 3-day workshop for all JHS teachers to equip them with the requisite skills to implement the new curriculum of which Tain District is not an exception.

Speaking at the Opening ceremony of the programme, the Member of Parliament for Tain, Hon. Sulemana Adama (Hon. Ramzy), hammered on the need for teachers to fight a common goal for them to get what they deserve.

“It is very sickening to see teachers who are supposed to fight for their collective good fighting for political parties.

”We in parliament have our various caucuses but when it comes to our own welfare, we wear a common cap that will suit each one of us. You as teachers and the main agents of our educational enterprise shouldn’t be cowed by politicians to divert your attention from what will benefit you as a teacher. If you don’t cry for yourselves, nobody will cry for you. There is this saying in Akan which says; Sɛ wo yam yɛ wo ya na sɛ woanfee wo se a, yɛnhunu wo mmↄbↄ” – Hon. Ramzy

He made these pronouncement in relation to the current mishandling of the teachers’ welfare to the extent that the president of the land could go ahead and say teachers cannot be billionaires.

“If you resource the teacher well they will build for themselves and there will be no need for you to plan a housing scheme for them when they go on retirement”

Commenting on the MP’s speech, the District Director of Education, Mr. Arkosah reminded his subordinates to pay heed to the advice of the MP and therefore desist from crowding the Teachers’ Platforms with political stuffs and rebuttals.

He used the opportunity to thank the Hon. MP for his presence at the occasion.
