Atebubu-Amantin Municipality in the Bono East region has recorded eight new cases of covid-19.
Medical Superintendent of Atebubu Government hospital, Dr. Kinsley Amponsah who spoke to the media, said the cases were recorded on the 3rd of January, 2022.
He expressed worry about new infection in the Municipality. Most of the infected persons were asymptomatic.
Dr. Amponsah advised the people in the Municipality to observe the health safety protocols and get vaccinated to ensure immunity against the virus.
Dr. Kingsley Amponsah said “although vaccination remained the surest way to protect oneself from contracting the disease, there is the need for the people to continue wearing nose masks, washing their hands with soap under running water, and observing social distancing in public places”.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye said Ghana is nowhere near a second lockdown.
In spite of the spike, Dr Kuma-Aboagye said citizens’ adherence to the safety protocols and patronage of the vaccines will make a second lockdown unnecessary.
He said the Greater Accra Region is recording an average of 1,000 new Omicron cases daily.
Prior to the entry of Omicron, Dr Kuma-Aboagye said Ghana’s active caseload was a little below 1,000 cases.
Globally, he said “more than four billion people have been vaccinated while about ten million people have taken the jab in Ghana”.
He cautioned anti-vaccine campaigners to stop demonizing the vaccine and rather help to save lives.
