The Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Forestry Commission of Ghana, Iddrisu Musah Superior has made a passionate appeal to the Judiciary to speed-up with the settlement of all 2020 Parliamentary Election Petition cases as such situations in a way affect the parties involved.
The former Mayor of Tamale Metropolis suggested that Parliamentary Election Petitions should be heard and judged within 21 days in order to give the MP’s involved the peace of mind to concentrate on discharging their duties.
This he believes will help mitigate the psychological trauma suffered by those involved.
He said “the waste of time and resources in attending court hearings cannot be over-emphasized”.
Musa Superior made this appeal in an exclusive interview with Nana Kwadwo Adu when he met with NPP Executives in Techiman after he joined them to attend a hearing at the Wenchi High in the Bono Region Court where the NDC’s 2020 Parliamentary candidate Mr. Christopher Baasonti Beyere has sued the Electoral Commission to challenge the declaration of Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah as MP for Techiman South Constituency in the Bono East region.
The verdict by the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Techiman South Constituency stated that the NPP’s candidate won with 49,682 votes representing 50.2 percent of the total valid votes cast, whilst the NDC’s candidate had 49,205 votes representing 49.8 percent of the total valid votes cast.
But the NDC Parliamentary candidate insists that the figures are not a true reflection of the votes.
According to him, per the pink sheets of the NDC agents at each of the 267 polling stations, he garnered 50,306 votes in the Parliamentary election whilst the 1st Respondent polled 50,013 votes.
Musa Superior who has declared his intentions to contest as General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the upcoming internal elections promised to run a bottom-up system where the grassroots will be duly equipped and National executives accessible in order to achieve the party’s breaking the eight agenda.
