The race for the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) ahead of the 2024 polls is beginning to take ugly dimensions in the Northern Region between supporters of two leading contenders, John Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
In less than 24-hours, two vociferous supporters of the Trade and Industry Minister have been suspended for breaching the directive of the party’s Regional Chairman Mohammed Baatima Samba.
Earlier, Alhaji Ibrahim Kaleem who is a member of the party’s communication team in the region was barred from holding himself as such after he was accused of breaching article 18 of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) Constitution.
This follows a live radio discussion where he called the bluff of the Regional Chairman who had earlier warned of sanctions against persons who openly campaign for presidential aspirants contrary to the laid down rules.
Dawuda Jentuma who is also a known Alan person, indefinitely lost his position as Choggu West Electoral Area in the Tamale Central Constituency for flouting Article 3 Clause 7 (1) of the constitution of the New Patriotic Party(NPP)
His crime was accusing the Regional Chairman of selectively applying the laws which is against supporters of Alan in the Region.
Selective application of NPP laws
Following the suspension of the two, questions have been raised about a level playing field being offered to all prospective candidates in the region as some persons including Regional Executives have openly declared for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and gotten away with it.
Suspended Dawuda Jentuma who is a known voice for a live radio discussion for Alan prior to his suspension wondered how the laws of the party were being applied.
“We heard they are going to suspend us if this program (Alan Dundong’ni) comes off tonight. And we are daring them to so, if they have the balls. How can you give out directives and turn around to disregard it?”, he asked.
He cited instances where Northern Regional Secretary, Alhaji Sibdow, Regional Youth Organizer, Ghana Alhassan, and some Constituency Executives have so far flouted the rules but nothing was done to them describing the application of the party’s laws as pure bias.
