The Bono Regional Minister Justina Owusu Banahene has advocated for accident free season ahead of the Christmas celebration.
This advocacy is to reduce road crashes in the region and beyond.
In an interview monitored by Masemtv on Radio BAR on December 14, 2021, the Minister expressed her displeasure over driver’s disregard for road traffic and called for strict compliance.
Madam Justina urged drivers to avoid unnecessary overtaking, over-speeding and overloading which are some of the causes of road crashes.
Meanwhile, Provisional statistics released by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service indicates that 2,380 persons have died between January and October 2021 due to road crashes. The figure is a 14.48% increment from what was recorded within the same period in 2020.
The total number of road crashes recorded by the MTTD between January and October 2021, is 13,244 with the total number of vehicles involved pegged at 23, 488.
She also called on the citizenry to religiously adhere to all the Covid-19 safety protocols to contain the spread of the virus.
She reiterated her outfit’s readiness to continue the protocol enforcement with the security agencies to fight the spread.
The Minister also implored residents of the region to live peace and harmony with each other to ensure development.
