The Pru East District Assembly in the Bono East Region has pledged its support for fisherfolks in the area.
The District Chief Executive, Alhaji Abdulai Adams met with fishermen in the District Capital, Yeji to discuss challenges confronting them and the possible solutions.
The Inland Fishermen association of Yeji presented their grievances to the Chief Executive for assistance.
The challenges include Premix fuel being hijacked by party faithfuls, unavailability of subsidized outboard motor, and other issues that have to do with landing beach committee.
The fishermen alleged that the premix fuel is sold to non-fisherfolks who in return sell fuel at higher price and thus hampering their work.
But reacting to the challenges, Alhaji Abdulai indicated that the issue of outboard motors and premix fuel will soon be a thing of the past since his outfit is working assiduously to address the concerns of the fishermen. “I am told by my office that challenges with premix fuel and outboard motors are better now than before, things are currently under control”.
He also assured them of fair representation on the landing beach committees to harness fishing in the area.
Premix fuel is a subsidized petroleum product central to artisanal fishers in the marine and inland fisheries sector to power their outboard motors for fishing expeditions.
Meanwhile, Joseph Blebo, deputy secretary of the Yeji Inland fishermen association charged his colleagues to be vigilant and fight for what is due them.
