Tain MP Commends Farmers for their Enormous Contribution towards Ghana’s Economy

Friday, the 3rd day of December, 2021 marked the 37th National Farmers’ Day as celebrated on the first Friday of December every year.

The Tain district Assembly hosted its own at Seikwa one of the major towns in the district. In attendance to this important occasion were dignitaries from the various paramouncies, Heads of Departments, the media, the security services, the Hon. DCE, the Hon. MP, not forgetting the hardworking farmers and the general populace of the Tain enclave.

When giving the opportunity, Hon. Ramzy Sulemana Adama expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the gallant farmers whose efforts has not only fed the people but has also provided employment, boasted the economy as well as preserving the environment.
“It is very clear that the only avenue which provides employment to most Ghanaians is Agriculture. For us to develop as a nation, it becomes necessary to celebrate our farmers and put modern mechanisms in place to get rid of the old ways of farming which was mainly slashing. Today, most farmers require Agro-inputs like, weedicides, fertilizers and many more in order to meet the modern farming system, I will therefore plead on government to make available these inputs as their scarcity make the works of farmers difficult.”

He further alluded that farming will not be successful if there is no value chain, therefore proper measures should be put in place for farmers to know readily available markets where their produce will be sent for sale as this will prevent post harvest losses which is a major problem of most farmers.

Hon. Sulemana Adama (Ramzy), further stated that the poor nature of roads in the Tain District has made it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to markets and sale centres. He therefore pleaded on the government to have a touch on the roads as this will not only benefit the district but Ghana as a whole, since Tain is one of the food baskets in the Bono Region and Ghana at large.

“From the major roads through to the feeder roads and other stretches that lead to our villages and farms, all are in deplorable states and I will want to use this opportunity to appeal to the government to come to our aid in that regard”.

He again advised farmers and the inhabitants to be cautious of fire during this period of the year as bushfire causes us a great loss. With this he fell on Nananom to put measures in place to curb the rise in bushfire as people of today have fear in traditional authority than the powers of governance.

Finally, he commended the farmers for their unflinching support to families, communities, the district, the region and the Ghanaian economy under these challenging situations.
He also appreciated the Tain District Assembly for organizing such a wonderful programme to celebrate our hardworking farmers even though there are limited or no resources.

The following are some of the categories of farmers awarded with assorted items and certificate, best crop farmer, best fish farmer, outstanding agric extension officer, best physically challenged farmer, best livestock farmer and the best woman farmer which was a category initiated by the MP to encourage women who are into farming.

The programme was a very memorable one that brought joy to the hearts of winners and all farmers in and around Tain district.
To our farmers we say Ayikoo, Mo ne Adwuma Pa
