The Headmaster of the Kumasi base catholic public high school, Opoku Ware School has reiterated of his decision to insist on single track for the first year students for the 2021/22 academic year.
The catholic priest, Rev. Fr. S. O. Sekyere, who is also the Headmaster, made this known to the Alumni Association, the Opoku Ware Old Boys Association popularly referred to as the ”Akatakyie” at their vitual congress on Friday, December 3, 2021.
The Rev. Fr. S. O. Sekyere, in his welcoming speech to his fellow Akatakyie, revealed the decision by the school to insist on single track for the first year students who will be enrolled into the school for the 2021/22 academic year.
”I have already served notice to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service that Opoku Ware School will not run a double track for the fresh students who will be admitted into the school for the 2021/22 academic year.
I have indicated to them that we can only admit one thousand new students into the school as we insist to run on a single track” the headmaster added.
”Though, i heard the Minister for Education in an interview on a radio station pleading with headmasters of schools who are running double track to continue with the exercise, even though my name was not mentioned but i thought he was directly speaking to me on the decision of the school to run a single school but we still insist on our decision on single track” he revealed.
”Our teaching and non teaching staff have never rested since we introduced double track in the school in 2018. Managing these huge students especially during their final WASSCE has not been easy and you could all remember how the students has their results temporarily suspended by WAEC. We had to spend a lot of energy to ensure that WAEC releases their results in order not to affect their next level of education.
Speaking on the theme ”Seven decades of leadership through excellent education” the headmaster expressed worry about the performance of the students in the WASSCE results due to their huge intake and the kind of students being admitted by the school over the recent years with students having as low as aggregate forty.
”Over the few years, our students have been doing their best in WASSCE but their performances obviously do not meet our expectations. The school is known for excellence and we must put down the requisite steps in place to go back to our glorious years” he said.
The headmaster, Rev. Fr. S. O. Sekyere expressed appreciation to his fellow Akatakyie for their unflinching support such as the construction of three bed room bungalow, construction of a mechanized borehole, provision of modern toilet facility, provision of modern equipment at the school’s kitchen and many more.
The headmaster outlined various measures that have been put in place for the students to have enough contact hours from their dedicated teaching staff as well as to provide the students with the maximum security on campus.
In line with these measures, the headmaster pleaded with the Old Boys Association of Opoku Ware School to come to their aide with the supply of teaching materials such as computers and projectors; CCTV cameras to be installed on campus to enhance Security on campus, provision of sports facilities including indoor games and finally urged tge various year groups to come out with support to the teaching staff to motivate them to give out their best to the students in order to constantly keep the teachers on campus so as to prevent the teachers from going out to engage in other activities even outside their period.
