The Medical Director of the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Thomas Chireh, has pleaded with all Ghanaians to help address financial challenges facing the hospital.
Doctor Thomas Chireh made the appeal when the 2020 NDC Vice presidential candidate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, as part of her 70th Birthday celebration, presented food and hospital equipment valued at thousands of Ghana cedis to the management and inmates of the hospital.
Our Central Regional correspondent, James Kweku Baako, was at the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, where the donation took place and has filed this report.
The Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, was established by Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in 1965 as a complex hospital for all British West African colonies.
However, the mission and the visions of Kwame Nkrumah were short live as a result of his assassination the following year. Though the hospital has since its establishment has been the focal point of healing all those with mental challenges, it has largely depended on the government and philanthropic groups to keep the hospital growing.
It was on the basis of this that the 2020 NDC Vice presidential candidate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, has since her days as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast up to date, been supporting the hospital.
As part of day’s event, fruits, loaves of bread, and other items worth thousands of Ghana cedis were presented to the hospital by Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang as part of her 70th Birthday celebration. She then touched on the need for all to make it a habit of supporting the hospital
Dr. Thomas Chireh, after registering his delight at the donation, called on all Ghanaians to support the hospital financially.
