The commission’s report on Kaaka is a travesty of justice – NDC Zongo Caucus

The National Zongo Caucus Coordinator of the National Democratic Congress has described the Ejura Committee’s report as a ‘travesty of justice’.

In a press release sighted by Masemtvgh.com, the National Zongo Caucus Coordinator raised a number of cogent arguments to buttress his ascertion.

”We wish to state our disagreement with the Report as it seeks to fudge the facts leading to the killing of Kaaka and also impugn the integrity of the family of all the victims of the heinous crime in Ejura” the statement indicated.

THE NATIONAL ZONGO CAUCUS OF THE NDC.

For Immediate Release:

THE COMMISSION REPORT ON KAAKA IS A TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE!

We have cited the Justice Koomson Committee Report on the Ejura Murder incident in which Mohammed Ibrahim aka “Kaaka” and three other persons lost their lives.

We wish to state our disagreement with the Report as it seeks to fudge the facts leading to the killing of Kaaka and also impugn the integrity of the family of all the victims of the heinous crime in Ejura.

In this report, one of the Findings states as follows;

“After careful examination of the evidence relating to the events preceding the death of ‘Kaaka’, we are convinced that the evidence as testified to by Sadia Fuseini is more reasonably probable than the unsubstantiated evidence of Abeewakas and Sahada Hudu which are more speculative. We accordingly find that the death of ‘Kaaka’ was not directly linked to his social media activism. It is more probably a family feud. This is also supported by the testimony of Aminu Mohammed a resident of Ejura and a friend of the late ‘Kaaka”.

In the strictest of terms and as Advocates of Zongo Affairs, we deem this position as taken by the Committee to be insentive to the facts and the emotions of the family who have had to nurture the effect of such a horrendous trauma inflicted on “Kaaka” and others, by the state security agencies.

The position of the Committee in the Findings compels us to demand answers to other questions such as follows;

1. How could the evidence of a friend of Kaaka be taken with a heavier probability than that of his wife, Sahada Hudu?

2. It is absolutely ridiculous to suggest that Kaaka died as a result of a family feud when the deceased earlier on received threats from some NPP members during his “Fix the Country Campaign”?

3. Again, why did the Committee ignore a leading evidence such as the letter written on the 15th June, 2021 by the police to Kaaka, warning him to desist from actions that could subvert the peace of the public?

4. Why was the Ashanti Regional minister, Simon Osei, who ordered the military leading to the death of persons and others injured be absolved in this matter?

5. We again find the recommendation to establish sports and recreational facilities as an insult to Zongos and its dwellers. We therefore take serious exception to the suggestion that, Zongos don’t deserve any development except sports and recreation.

6. In our view, we think the Committee should have recommended sanctions to the MCE and the security personnel whose acts led to the death of “Kaaka”, as well as injury to other persons. Transferring the District Police Commander and relieving the MCE of his position is hogwash.

As Advocates of Zongo affairs we find the narration in the Findings of the Report to have been skewed to serve a parochial interest at the expense of justice and fairness.

It is also important to urge the state not to treat the Committee’s Recommendation for compensation with contempt as happened to the Emile Short Commission regarding the Ayawaso West Wuogon Victims. Till date, no compensation has been paid them and the victims are suffering with one of them dead.

It is regrettable to have the Nana Addo/Bawumia Govt as having committed all the atrocities visited by the state security on our Zongo brethren even as we have a Vice President who claims to be a Muslim and yet, not showing concern let alone act to stop these murders and attacks on the Zongo people.

We therefore demand Justice for “Kaaka” and many other victims of atrocities in our Zongos who were unjustifiably murdered in Ejura and other places by Akuffo Addo’s Security Agents.

Thank you.

Signed.
