Former Auditor-General, Daniel Domelovo says government’s claim of fighting corruption has not been backed by action.
His comment comes after President Akufo-Addo’s said at a recent meeting with the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition that his government has resourced anti-corruption agencies more than his predecessors have.
According to the President, the acting Auditor General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, has surpassed expectations in his performance, which are ‘unheard of.’
But speaking during the Arrupe Jesuit and the Catholic Professional Guilds Town Hall Meeting in Accra on Thursday, Mr Domelovo indicated that the lip service paid by the country’s leadership will not address the rate of graft in the public sector.
“A good number of Ghanaians will like to see more actions against corruption; unfortunately, the leadership of the country is very good at rhetorics,” he said.
Mr Domelovo also lauded Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia’s digitisation agenda.
But he noted that “if we don’t curb the indiscipline, the digitalization will not bring the desired solution.”
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah, says President Akufo-Addo didn’t have to compare the acting Auditor General and his performance so far to his predecessor, Daniel Domelevo.
According to him, the acting Auditor General, who took office a few months ago, is working on a foundation that has been built by his predecessors.
Speaking on Top Story on Thursday, Mr Braimah said, “I don’t think the comparison is necessary. We all know that Domelevo was hounded out, and we are clear about some of the reasons why the government felt uncomfortable with him.”
