President Nana Akufo Addo has expressed his sadness to the woeful defeat of his party in the 2020 polls regarding the Parliamentary Elections, and ended up encouraging his people to do better in the 2024 election at his recent tour in the Bono East Region. It seems to me that the President has still not overcome the defeat he suffered in the hands of the NDC in Bono East and the nation at large. The President would have cried if he had focused his mind on the Presidential results of the 2020 election in the Region. The President is very much aware that his second term was made possible due to how the EC rigged the election for him and his party. The President has stolen the verdict of the people and we are fully prepared for the EC in the 2024 election.
It is crystal clear that the NDC did far better than the NPP in both the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in 2020, due to the prudent steps and measures put in place by both Regional and Constituency Executives of the party in the Region led by the Regional Chairman, Unas Owusu coupled with the extraordinary performance of the NDC in terms of development in the Region.
In the Presidential election results, the NDC won 10 out of 11 constituencies with close to 70,000 votes margin.
The President Akufo Addo won only one constituency in the Region with less than 1,000 votes. In effect President Mahama had won all the seats with the exception of Nkoranza North which the Parliamentary seat was won for the first time by the NDC.
Meaning if President Akuffo Addo has averted his mind to his own results in the Bono East, he would have wailed for his party’s horrible defeat.
Nonetheless, the NPP in the Bono East should not be deceived by the words of the President, urging them to do better in the upcoming 2024 election. With the current performance of the NDC in the Region, coupled with the abysmal performance of the NPP party, we are very confident that the NDC would actually do better than what it has achieved in the 2020 election for both Parliamentary and Presidential come 2024.
