The Ashanti regional directorate of the veterinary service has confirmed an outbreak of the Bird flu disease in the Atwima Kwawoma District.
The directorate on Thursday, July, 29 killed four thousand (4000) birds whiles thousands of eggs were also destroyed.
As of July 17, the Bird Flu outbreak killed over 10,000 poultry birds in Ghana after authorities detected the cases were coming from neighboring countries.
Director of Veterinary Services, Dr Patrick Abakah announced the imposition of a total ban on the importation of poultry and poultry products from neighboring countries where the disease is.
A ban was also subsequently placed on the movement of poultry and poultry products within and from the affected regions and districts within the country.
Speaking with Starr FM’s Ashanti regional correspondent Isaac Justice Bediako, the regional director of the Ghana Veterinary Service Dr. Marlon Mensah said efforts are underway to contain the virus from spreading across the region.
So far, H5N1 influenza has killed some 5,811 birds naturally while the Veterinary Service has also destroyed some 4,500 birds.
