The President of GHANA, HE Nana Addo, is in the Savannah on a 2 Days tour. And as usual of him, visiting and commissioning projects of his predecessor HE John Dramani Mahama.
In Damongo, accompanied by his own chair from Accra, he had his time in the studio of a community based radio station, PAD fm to interact with listeners.
Though I had some personal reservations with regards to some of the accolades to the President by the host, I must commend him for this singular question he put before Nana Addo: “Every President would want to leave a legacy for his people, I want to know the legacy you would be leaving for the people of Savannah region as a President?”
In response, there he was at his usual rhetoric; somersaulting and bombarding listeners with his profuse slangs.
He then went like, “Well, I think that the legacy that I will like to leave in the Savannah region is not different from the legacy I would like to leave in the rest of the country”
He went on and stated improving governance of the nation and to enhance and deepen the concept of democracy as the legacies he would like to leave in the county.
His response to the host was very appalling and sluggish, sending a signal he indeed had no tangible legacies to boast of in the region.
The question to the President was a precise one and needed a precise answer. But because
there is absolutely nothing for the President to show off in the Savannah Region, hence that generic response.
John Mahama left a solid legacy in the Savannah region and are very glaring for all to see.
He left us with 3 community SHS popularly know as Mahama Eblocks in the region. Communities you can locate these schools are: Bamboi, Daboya and Kpalbe; that of Kpalbe which was under construction has been abandoned by Nana Addo.
The all important Sawla~Damongo~Fufulso Road.
Salaga~Tamale Road.
Busunu~Daboya Road.
Bamboi polyclinic
Sawla~Tuna~Kalba Dist Hospital
Central Gonja Dist hospital; Were all projects either completed or on progress when he took power.
Suffice to add are the Bole college of education, abandoned by Nana Addo. And the contract of the Damongo water project which has also been cancelled by same Nana Addo.
The list continues.
The President was on record again taunting his 8 times visitation to the region as a shown of care and examplary connection with the people of the region, very well. But the question is: What exactly has he brought or add up to the massive developmental projects HE John Dramani Mahama left? Aside empty hands and rhetorics.
His visit can only best be described as a waste and a burden on our taxes unless at least we see the factories he promised all the 7 districts in the region and the dams he promised every village in the region are accomplished.
It’s sad and an embarrassment to his supporters in the region that despite the balloon nature of our public debt, with reckless borrowing, by his government, he still could not mention a single legacy of his in the Savannah region.
We’re calling on him to as a matter of agency fast track the completion of the abandoned projects of John Dramani Mahama in the region if he can’t get hands on new ones.
