A message received from the communication giant in Ghana’s telecommunications sector has indicated to its numerous agents of the government’s directives to rollout its tax policy effective July, 2021.
According the alert message from MTN to its Mobile Money agents, the government, through the Ghana Revenue Authority, a tax of 10% will be charged on your cash out commission.

The Akufo-Addo government, through the Ministry of Finance earlier this year, in its presentation of the 2021 budget statement to Parliament, indicated the government’s intention to tax Mobile Money merchants as a way of raising money for the country.
In the said presentation of the budget, while existing tax components such as VAT, Energy Sector Levy (ESLA) Communication Service and NHIS levies were increased, new taxes like Sanitation levy, which is being referred to by many as ”borla tax” was introduced.
