The inauguration of the newly elected Assembly Members was slated to commence yesterday, Wednesday, June 16 at exactly 2:00pm.
After a successful inauguration of the newly elected Assembly members, the Municipal Chairperson of the Electoral Commission described the modalities for conducting the election in accordance with article 244(2) of the 1992 constitution.
After this, assembly members were given the chance to vote and they voted accordingly.
Sorting and counting was done and the election was declared with non of the aspirants being able to secure two-thirds majority of the votes cast.
This created resistance from the Special Aide of the Regional Minister and out of his own volition declared the results for a candidate he supported.
After his own declaration without going by the modalities declared by the EC, the Member of Parliament for the Constituency called the guy and asked him why he is defying the rules of the Electoral Commission, but the Minister’s Special Aide rather refused to listen and started advancing violently towards the MP with the intention to assault him and indeed assaulted him.
The police in addition, assaulted and arrested the driver of the Regional Youth Organiser without any justifiable reason.
Let’s keep him in prayers because only God knows what is happening to him now.
