The Bono East Regional Minister Hon Kwasi Adu Gyan today, 11th June, 2021 during a shot ceremony for 300,000 trees to be planted in Techiman the Regional capital of Bono East Region as part of the Green Ghana day program said, besides some areas in Bono East Region, where Illigal miners are destroying our lands one major challenge in this Region is burning of charcoal.
Hon Kwasi Adu Gyan said, those into charcoal business are cutting down trees without replacement and is gradually destroying our Forest reserves.
He pleaded with those into charcoal business to always visit department of forestry commission in the Region to seek advice on proper way of burning charcoal because there are some trees which are not for charcoal.
He additional urged the general public to take very good care of the trees planted today so it will be beneficial to the future generation.
Speaking with Bono East Regional Director of Forestry Commission of Ghana Mrs.Lucy Amo Ntim said they decided to plant at River Tano to protect the river from dying since that is the only river big river in Techiman
Again she said, without trees there would have been a big challenge in the whole world not only Ghana because without trees human being will die and all animals, all our rivers Will dry up etc
She express her excitement on how the citizens partispating in the exercise in their numbers.
Moreover Nana Owusu Gyare Akwamuhene for Techiman Traditional council said, One of the cause of poverty in Ghana is the falling of trees because those days were not buying water and house hold expenses
Again he caution All chief not to sell land around river side and those building at the river side.
