Awareness Therapy Foundation, AWAT, a non governmental organization based in Techiman, Bono East Region celebrated this year’s world menstrual hygiene day with students of Osei Bonsu SHS at Nkoranza Yefri on Saturday 29th May 2021.
The celebration was packed with various health education on STI, menstrual hygiene, dealing with menstrual cramps and effects of social media on the youth.
In an exclusive interview with the Welfare Officer for AWAT Foundation, who doubles as an ophthalmic nurse at Nkoranza St Theresa’s hospital, Mr Ignatius Kofi Ntiako, noted that the world menstrual hygiene day which falls on 28th May every year, as part of the Foundation’s activities, they took that opportunity to also help give back to society.
He explained details of the project to Agyenkwa news. He advised parents to take good care of their daughters that this stage of their lives to as they transition from childhood into adulthood.
House master of the School, Mr Felix Gyabaa who spoke on behalf of the head master showed so much appreciation to AWAT Foundation for such an insightful education and the kind gesture.
Some of the students also thanked the foundation but the guys among them made a passionate appeal to AWAT Foundation to donate condoms to the male students so as to protect themselves from STIs.
In response to the appeal, Mr Ignatius Kofi Ntiako explained that, AWAT Foundation expects young guys in Senior High Schools to abstain from sex so they can’t donate condoms to them, because by so doing, it will promote sex in the school, which he explained further that it may lead them into what they have not planned for.
