Award road contracts to technocrats not politicians – Banda MP to Akufo-Addo

The seventeen kilometre road linking Nsawkaw to Banda Boase in the Banda District that was awarded in 2016 for construction has been abandoned making it subcestible to frequent armed robberies.

The Nsawkaw-Banda Boase road stretches along an area noted for the production of food crops and economic trees like cashew, mangoes and numerous others.

Government therefore took steps to rehabilitate road as away of opening the area for economic activities to flourish.

For some reasons that are hard to fathom the Contructor on the job abandoned work on the road and now serves as a death trap to vehicles and commuters plying on it.

What is easily noticeable on the road are gulleys caused by erosion that make it difficult for vehicles to move.

The situation is compounded when it rains and render the road slippery.

It takes a mate of a cargo truck to direct a driver to avoid accident.

Commenting on the dangers that are encountered on the road a Motorist George Adjei Awuah said armed robbers often attack commuters on the road during cashew purchasing season.

Awudu Iddrisu is commercial driver who plys on the road always.

He lamented that they sometimes organize communal labour to have the road reshaped for vehicles to pass through.

He therefore pleaded with the authorities to put the road in shape for them.

In the words of the chief of Banda Boase, Nana Ligbi Wolutie, President Akuffo Addo personally met him at his palace in 3017 and gave him the assurance that the road contract was re-awrded and work was expected to be completed within eighteen months but nothing is done on it up to now.

He therefore pleaded with the President to redeem his pledge by having the road redressed.

However, speaking to the assemblyman for Banda Boase-Wewa electoral area, Ahmed Ibrahim said the contractor has packed his machines and equipment from the road more than a few months ago, the road links Nsawkaw and Banda district.

He called on the government through the district assembly and the member of Parliament Ahmed Ibrahim to as matter of agency come back to the road.

Ahmed Ibrahim is the Member of Parliament for Banda.

He said road contracts in te country like that of the Nsawkaw-Banda Boase should not be awarded to politicians to execute.

He suggested that such roads should be repackaged and awarded to professional contractors to deal with for the good of society.
