You cannot award Energy Minister with honorary degree in the midst of power crisis -ASEPA slams UEW

Reference to the Award of an honorary doctorate conferred on Dr.Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, the Energy Minister, we are quite shocked that the University would throw such a huge blast on the faces of Ghanaians without considering the optics and the general sensibilities of the populace.

How can any serious University decide to confer honors on an Energy Minister in the midst of a major power crisis that has thrown the entire Country into total darkness??

What sort of consideration went into the Award of such honors?
It’s not as if the Energy Minister performed outstandingly in his previous position as an Education Minister for which reason the University would throw common sense to the dogs and expose itself to such international and local ridicule.

Take a look at our educational sector today, the poor nature of the free SHS program, the lack of textbooks and learning materials, ethnically profiled content for schools and a collapsing school feeding program triggered by corruption.

And all these are the footprints of the Matthew Opoku-Prempeh as an education minister and it is absolutely not surprising that only a few weeks upon assumption of office as Energy Minister, the whole Country was thrown into total darkness.

In the midst of these huge concerns and most importantly the power crisis, the UEW’s decision to decorate the Energy Minister with such honorary degree slams in the face of good governance, professional ethics and academic integrity and we totally oppose every bit of it.

The UEW must realize that such degrees mostly conferred are supposed to motivate and inspire their students and the public to pursue dilligence and effective leadership and in this instance this honorary degree have failed to meet such an important criteria in the award of honorary degrees.

The UEW must therefore take immediate steps to withdraw this honorary degree to save its sinking image!!!
