The Western North Region is one of the newly created regions with nine local assemblies ie three municipalities and six districts. The region is one that is endowed with natural resources such as gold, timber, bauxite and cocoa. We are the leading producer of cocoa and timber in the country.
As a new region with such natural resources, it is expected that government will harness these opportunities so to be beneficiary for all especially the teeming unemployed youths. However, the Nana Addo led administration has engaged in lip service and political gimmickry thus leaving the youths unattended to. It is often said in twi proverb that, “nea cdafom no ensouro ahwiase3”. To wit, the one lying on the floor does not fear falling down. To us in the NDC, we know we aren’t part of the plans of the government but what of the NPP guys?
The delay in the appointment of MMDCEs across the country points to one thing and that is, large number of aspirants which is stemming from unemployment. The Western North Region hasn’t been left out in this regard.
How can an infant region which has so much witness sixty four aspirants for the position of MDCE if indeed there are other opportunities for them? Since there are none, many are depositing their hope for survival on such appointment. This I must say can lead to corruption as well.
I wish to appeal to the already failed Nana Addo – Bawumia government to help surmount this exacerbating situation.
Long live Ghana!
Long live Western North Region!
