The Ahafo Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress has expressed worry on the decision by the government to burn down seized excavators at galamsey sites.
Hon Apraku Lartey, made this comment on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 on Edwumapa 98.9 Fm in Sunyani, during a discussion segment hosted by Might Judah.
Commenting on the action by the government to burn down excavators at sites, the Ahafo Regional Communications Officer described the action as lack of trust between the government and his appointees.
”The decision by the government to raze down siezed excavators at sites simply confirms that the president does not trust a single member of his appointee in his government to take care of seized excavators”.
Hon Apraku Lartey made reference to statements that have been made by an NPP Member of Parliament who has boldly come out to claim that he has receipts of seized excavators from galamsey sites that have been sold in Burkina Faso by NPP people.
In 2020, there was a report that nine hundred excavators that were earlier on seized at galamsey sites were left with four hundred excavators.
The missing of five hundred excavators became a heated topic for debate for months by the public who demanded from the Akufo-Addo government to render account on them but never received any proper action from the government.
The recent decision by the government to burn down seized excavators may be as a result of the ministry’s inability to account for the earlier seized excavators from similar exercise which made the NPP government unpopular.
But to Hon Apraku Lartey, the Akufo-Addo government knows the people who are actively involve in the galamsey business which happens to be his own party executives and urged the Akufo-Addo government, to boldly go after those party executives if indeed he wanted to eradicate the menace of galamsey activities along our water bodies. ”President Akufo-Addo must be bold enough to clamp down on his own party executives who are deeply rooted in the galamsey enterprise” he stated.
