It is baseless to oppose to Ayariga’s motion – Rev. Nana Takyi

The Bawku central legislature Hon Mahama Ayarega recently raised a private motion in parliament which seeks to get the President suspend the

payment of fees in the public/Private tertiary institutions for a year due to the negative impact of the novel COVID-19 but was opposed by the majority caucus in parliament.

Reacting to this, Rev. Nana Takyi Asiedu, a political analyst has said that, the majority caucus decision to quash the one year free tertiary education bills is quite unfortunate and can negatively affect the NPP in the 2024 general elections.

He stressed that, it is useless and baseless for the NPP’s introduction of Free SHS if the same government cannot afford to foot the bills for the Tertiary students in this Covid 19 era.

He added that, quashing the free tertiary education motion by the majority caucus indicates the NPP government is  not willing to support the tertiary education in the country and have a great resistance to the Free tertiary education promised made  by John Mahama and the NDC in the 2020 campaign season.

He therefore stressed that, the decision can highly develop negative impact on the NPP government in their next election because all parents having their wards in Tertiary education and the students at large might vote against them for not helping them in this difficult times.
