President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a national broadcast on March 16, announced the closure of all schools in the country along with a ban on public gatherings when Ghana confirmed her first two positive Covid-19 cases.

On October 5, 2020 however, second-year students in junior and senior high schools were allowed back in school so they could complete the 2019/20 academic year.

Restrictions to manage the spread of the new coronavirus pandemic, including partial lockdowns, have since been eased considerably, however schools have remained shut.

The world however, is currently dealing with a new strain of the virus, said to be even more infectious
